This is one of my favorite go-to foods when thyroid flares up. Wearing the face mask affects me terribly after just a few minutes, I’m sure I’m not alone. I get lightheaded, sinus headache, immediately blocked nose in both nostrils, become phlegmy, dry throat and my voice starts croaking, before I start coughing, all within 5 minutes. Asthma follows. I share this to offer my experience so others, of similar circumstances, do not feel alone. Are we taking enough notice of what’s happening to our health and if we are really doing ok, right now? If you have trouble with a mask I encourage you to see your doctor to discuss your options. In the meantime, miso broth is very helpful for restoring thyroid balance when it includes mushrooms, seaweed, ginger, and sea kelp. Windowsill babies (or is it actually, the afterlife for these mature plants?). Once we know which plants are basically evergreen, that is they continue to produce food, it’s basically... well... impossible ... even... criminal ... to throw the “off-cuts” in the compost or bin. Peel back the outer layers for salads, juicing and cooking. Keep the inner cores in a bowl of water on the window sill and give them a new lease on life. When strong and growing, transplant back into compost-rich soil and mulch. Here is pak choy, lettuce, celery, leek, and mint. Dizzy, lightheaded, low iron? Thankfully these plants produce continuously so long as you peel from the outer leaves on stem - not cut. Spinach, silver beet, Brussels sprouts, parsley, greens are not just garnish, they are the whole meal :)

It’s been a while since we have had party pies, sausage rolls and Frankfurt’s. Probably over 8 years. Saw them getting eaten at a party the other day and didn’t miss them at all... but the kids thought it’d be nice to have sausage rolls today on a cold winters day 🥶 - in the quasi-vegetarian 🏠 homestead we can use a vegan filling including leftover mashed potato & coconut cream, peas, corn, tomatoes, just a general vegan casserole rolled into puffed pastry. Commercial Puffed pastry contains butter and gluten so it’s not for everyone 🥧 Always better to make as much as we can at home so we know what goes into our food, have the option to add more wholesome ingredients, and you know... #lifeskills 🤷‍♀️ we all need to know how to cook 👨‍🍳 #partyfood

There are many cute moments with incubator ducklings. But if you’re thinking about doing it, you should know how much poop there is to cleanup! Who would have thought ducklings could create so much... stink. So much more than chicks. So. Much. Mess. But - CUTE. Cuddly. Joyful. Happy. Worth it? Still figuring that one out. 😳 nah they’re worth it. Gimme another 2 weeks of raising them inside in the cold belly of winter and I may change my mind though.
